What is a Business Improvement District (BID)?

A BID is a defined area within which businesses located pay a levy that goes towards a variety of projects deisgned to improve the space in the district's boundary. This is often done through a number public realm initiatives, strategies to make the area safer and cleaner and social events to increase the area’s profile. BID’s operate all over the world; London alone is home to over 25 BIDs in both central and suburban locations. Vauxhall One is led and funded by businesses in Vauxhall.

My business is in Vauxhall, how do I know if I’m part of the BID?

If the rateable value of your property is over £20,000 you are automatically part of Vauxhall One and therefore have access to all of the free services provided. To check if you’re a member call our team on 020 3179 2070 or email info@vauxhallone.co.uk and we will be able to tell you.

How do I pay the BID Levy?

Payment of the BID levy is compulsory for all businesses occupying premises rated at £20,000 or over and located within the boundary. Vauxhall One is not responsible for the collection of the levy. Any queries, including copy invoices, should be taken up directly with Lambeth Council.

How to pay

BACS: payment to Nat West Head Office Sort Code 62 26 20, Account No 00000000, quoting your nine digit BID reference number which is on your invoice.

Cash Office: Cheques quoting your nine digit BID reference number can be sent to Lambeth Cashiers, Olive Morris House, 18 Brixton Hill, London SW2 1RL

When to pay

Levy payers can either pay in full in April, or in two instalments due 1 April and 1 October.

Please note you will not receive a second invoice for the payment due in October.

My rateable value is less than the required amount but I am Vauxhall based and would like access to the services you provide, is this possible?

Yes, our ‘opt-in membership’ is for small and medium businesses and by signing up for an annual fee you will have access to the majority of services we provide. This includes recycling, employee perk cards, invitations to Vauxhall One events, litter collection around your premises and small DIY jobs.

How long will the BID be in action for?

Vauxhall One was voted for by businesses in a ballot in February 2012. It will exist for a minimum of 5 years after which businesses will vote again to decide whether it will continue.
