Albert Embankment and Goding Street Public Realm Project

This report was commissioned by Vauxhall One in September 2017 with the overarching objective to understand what businesses on Goding Street want from the Goding Street Public Realm Project.

This piece of work follows on from a concept design undertaken by DSDHA in 2015 that proposed a pedestrian focussed public realm that:

  • Increases footfall along Goding Street, in anticipation of active café and restaurant frontages that could spill out onto Goding Street as a part of the re-development of Network Rail’s commercial estate.
  • Supports Lambeth’s Event Strategy 2015 – 2020 to ensure the continued use of the park as a destination for cultural events and help re-orientate the commercial uses in the arches to address the park rather than just Albert Embankment.
  • Builds upon the momentum of surrounding projects and developments such as the Hugo Bugg Garden, Missing Link project, Cabinet Gallery and Newport Street Gallery.
  • Promotes the area within the wider context – notably Goding Street’s strategic location within the Nine Elms on South Bank (NESB) development area’s network of green spaces
