Here is the latest update from the Metropolitan Police on the planned visit by President Donald Trump

*UPDATE*

A significant policing operation is being planned for the visit of The President of The United States on 13th July 2018. There will be a number marches and rallies taking place on 12th, 13th & 14th July, most on social media, of note for the Nine Elms, Vauxhall Cross Areas:

  • Friday 13th July-: Expected busiest day for protest in Central London. From about 1100 to 1900
  • At the US Embassy in Nine Elms Lane an expected small protest, against the visit between 1200 and 1500. and small later one in support of the visit, between 1930 and 2200.
  • **CHANGE** Saturday 14th July-: In relation to the rally & march outside the US Embassy conditions have now been placed on this group under the Public Order Act. They have been told they can only hold a procession (march) from 1300 to 1400 starting at Temple Place and processing along a define route to Whitehall. These locations are away from the Embassy, and north of the river.
  • They can still hold a rally outside the Embassy and are likely do so. A policing plan remains in place. The rally would be expected on 14th between 1200 and 1300 outside the Embassy.
  • There are also separate rallies planned in Whitehall and Parliament Square. From 1300 to 1900.

From this morning 12th July, local borough policing of the Nine Elms area has been enhanced with additional police pa-trols to provide reassurance, these will increase in number on Saturday, or when necessary to manage the response to protest. A traffic plan will be in place on the Saturday with the aim of supporting the intention to minimise local disruption.

Your Local Nine Elms Safer Neighbourhood team will be on duty to support and assist the local community and businesses. Particularly on the Saturday 14th

Nine Elms Lane will only be closed to vehicle traffic if necessary, and only for as long as necessary. In this event, officers will endeavour to facilitate access to businesses and residents in Nine Elms Lane where pos-sible.

  • Saturday 14th July-: A rally & march in support of the visit will take place, marching from the US Embassy to Whitehall via Vauxhall Bridge and Millbank. Form up from 1000 ending at 1400 with a significant number antici-pated to attend. This will join a rally in Whitehall. There is also expected to be protest against the visit & rally during this time in Whitehall as well. (Subject to potential change and times may vary)

Safeguarding your business:

Your people

  • In the days leading up to the event, ensure all employees are fully briefed.
  • Your premises should have a strong, visible management presence who should identify themselves to the police in the event of any trespassing or damage.
  • Security officers, where possible, should be highly visible.
  • All staff should remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security and/or the police.
  • Ensure all members of staff are fully aware of any emergency and evacuation procedures.

Your premises

  • Minimise the number of entry points to your premises.
  • Ensure that the outside areas are clear of debris, dustbins, ladders or tools and equipment.
  • Check that your emergency equipment, grab bags, first aid supplies and walkie-talkies are in place, easy to get to and working properly. Advisable to test them beforehand.
  • Check and test building security and emergency systems.
  • Ensure CCTV coverage is fully operational and can provide the highest recording resolution possible.
  • If your building has scaffolding erected or is in close proximity of scaffolding, let your security staff know.
