London Philharmonic Orchestra – 10k London Run

On Sunday July 9, Team LPO will be taking to the pavements of London once again as part of the British 10K.

Following last year’s incredible success, where Team LPO raised a phenomenal £23,000, LPO are looking for willing and able runners to take up the mantle for this year’s run.

Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or first time runner, all they ask is that you aim to raise as much money as possible.

In 2017 LPO will be running in aid of BrightSparks, the Orchestra’s schools concerts. All money raised by Team LPO will help to enable over 10,000 young people from our South London communities and further afield to attend one of our live schools concerts, many for the very first time.

If you are interested in running on behalf of the LPO or would like more information, please contact Ellie Franklin at ellie.franklin@lpo.org.uk or on 020 7840 4225.

March 2017 – To celebrate Japan’s Hanami festival, Chino Latino Pan Asian Restaurant & Latin Bar, the award-winning Vauxhall restaurant located on Albert Embankment, has created a bespoke cherry blossom afternoon tea and cocktail.

Hanami is the festival that celebrates spring blossoms season in Japan and as such Executive Group Chef Werner Seebach has created a bespoke cherry blossom afternoon tea, to include a cherry blossom financier cake and cocktail.

Of the new dish and cocktail Chef Seebach says: ‘We wanted to celebrate this special season in Japan and also highlight the Japanese influences in our menu so what better way than creating an afternoon tea and cocktail made from the very flowers we are honouring’.

Available until the end of May, subject to seasonal availability, the afternoon tea and cocktail is priced at £23.50 per person. Alongside the cherry blossom financier, the afternoon tea includes a choice of tea, two scones with Cornish clotted cream and jam, three sweet tarts including yuzu and chocolate flavours, macaroons, cucumber, smoked salmon and egg mayonnaise finger sandwiches and prawn cocktail and smoked salmon maki rolls. The cocktail is made of sake, cherry Heering, Cointreau, lime, grenadine with a dash of bitters.

Recently the restaurant has undergone an extensive reinvention – now boasting floor-to-ceiling river views towards the Houses of Parliament, live music and a new dining and cocktail menu.

Following a complete redesign, diners can now enjoy extensive views of the Thames and live music in the evenings.

Register your interest in the business rates local relief scheme

Under the 2017 Business Rates Revaluation, Lambeth businesses have seen the fourth highest rateable value increase in the country.

Lambeth Council have worked with businesses, business improvement districts, such as Vauxhall One and other councils to lobby the government to look again at the impact on local businesses, many of which face rises in excess of 30 per cent.

In response to lobbying from London and across the country, the Chancellor announced in the Budget that he would make available an additional £300 million to councils over four years to facilitate a discretionary scheme to help businesses struggling to meet their new increased business rates charge. Lambeth Council will receive approximately £3 million to support businesses facing rates rises – though this is a relatively small amount compared to the total increase in the business rates bill for Lambeth which is almost £30 million.

Central government is consulting with councils with regard to how the scheme will work before deciding on the national rules which they will impose.

The consultation period ends on 7 April and we expect the government to confirm what the process will be shortly after that.

Lambeth Council are currently considering different options of how their scheme can best support local businesses. But they will be unable to finalise the scheme until the government has produced the regulations around it.

An agreed is anticipate to be in place by mid May 2017.

To make sure that the scheme can properly support the businesses that most need it in the borough, we encourage you to register your interest by using the form here.
