The commercial gallery Cabinet, which represents Ed Atkins and the Turner Prize winner Mark Leckey, is due to move into a new permanent home on Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens early next year reports The Arts Newspaper. The purpose-built, five-storey building, located on the is backed by the London-based arts patron Charles Asprey.
Cabinet, which was founded in Brixton in 1991, is currently based in Old Street in east london. The gallery, a fixture on the contemporary art scene, has worked with high-profile names such as Martin Creed and Tris Vonna-Michell.
“To be the neighbour of the Royal Vauxhall Tavern, on the edge of the Pleasure gardens, is an added bonus,” says Martin McGeown, the co-director of Cabinet Gallery. The new venue is a key addition to Vauxhall, which is also home to Damien Hirst’s new gallery which is due to open in Newport Street this October.
