Commemorating Holocaust Memorial Day

News January 22, 2015 - admin2020 Commemorating Holocaust Memorial Day
HMD is on 27 January each year

It is a time for everyone to stop and remember the victims of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur. By learning the lessons of the past, we hope to improve society today by tackling issues such as prejudice and hate crime in local communities.

The Holocaust Memorial Day Trust is a Vauxhall-based, national charity that asks local workplaces to mark HMD for their employees in easy ways. Businesses are obviously busy, but HMDT is on hand to provide you with the resources and support you need to make it happen. You may only have a couple of minutes to put up a poster display, leave a few ‘About HMD’ booklets in the canteen or send around an office-wide email to bring employees’ attention to the day, but HMDT can send the free posters and leaflets, and provide you with the text for the email.

By spreading the messages of HMD, you can help cement your organisational values and create a more inclusive and welcoming working environment, which can have a positive impact further down the chain to customers and suppliers.

If you have a bit more time, then HMDT can help facilitate a poetry reading, a lunchtime discussion around the themes or a screening of one of its presentations, to name but a few examples. You can read a bit more about putting on a workplace activity in the Get involved guide for workplaces.

If you would like to order one the free Activity Packs which contain the poster set, or boxes of the ‘About HMD’ booklets, which come in packs of 50, please email ben.small@hmd.org.uk.

HMDT is based in Vauxhall too, so Ben would be happy to come down to meet with anyone that wanted to talk about putting on an HMD activity further.
