The Vauxhall One Cycling Guide

News July 1, 2020 - admin2020 The Vauxhall One Cycling Guide
The number of daily bicycle journeys in London has increased by 170% since the 1990s.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and reduction in public transport usage, cycling is surging in popularity, with TFL predicting that London cycling could now increase tenfold.

With this rapid rise in cyclists on London roads, including a lot of beginners to road cycling, Vauxhall One is here to give you top tips and handy info for cycling in and around Vauxhall for all abilities.

Vauxhall’s Cycle Routes

If you want to check your journey before you travel, alter your route to make use of easier cycle paths and know which difficult spots to avoid, have a look at the Lambeth Cycle Map.

This fantastic resource features a ‘bikeability level’, so you can see clearly on the map which routes have very low traffic flows suitable for all, and those which carry a higher level of risk and are reserved for more experienced cyclists.

The map also shows you London Quietways, quieter routes suitable for less confident cyclists or existing cyclists who want to travel at a gentler pace. One of these quietways runs straight through Vauxhall, from Newport Street to Meadow Road, perfect for those wanting a more relaxed cycle. You can also find bike repair shops, Santander bike docking stations and cycle parking spots on the map.

Facilities Available for Cyclists in Vauxhall

As well as the great cycling routes available throughout Vauxhall, the team at Vauxhall One has been busy improving the area for those travelling by bike.

Look out for new bike pumps that are hitting Vauxhall’s pavements from 10 July, as well as new Vauxhall One bike racks on Vauxhall Walk and South Lambeth Walk. You can see all the new Vauxhall bike facilities on our handy bike map .

Dr Bike – Free Bike Maintenance

Vauxhall One offers free Dr Bike maintenance for people who have signed up to our mailing list. The sessions ensure that your bike is road worthy, the brake pads, gears and cables are functioning properly and that your wheels are well inflated and aligned correctly.

Dr Bike sessions start on Thursday 16 July at the entrance to Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, running three times a month with 12 slots available at each event. Bookings are made via email and details will be sent to our mailing list with sign up details. Join our mailing list here.
