Orlando Incident and Counter-Terrorist update

All at Vauxhall One where deeply saddned to hear that, on Sunday 12th June 2016 at about 02:00 local time at Pulse nightclub, Orlando, Florida a gunman opened fire, killing at least 50 people and injuring dozens before being shot dead by police. Pulse, which is one of the biggest LGBT nightclubs, in Orlando had more than 300 people inside at the time, when the man opened fire.

The threat to the UK from international terrorism remains unchanged at SEVERE, as it has been since August 2014, meaning an attack is highly likely. The UK police and security and intelligence services are working to confront the terrorist threat and keep the public safe. They urge the public to be alert but not alarmed and report anything suspicious to the confidential anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789 321. In an emergency always call 999.

Response to Orlando Incident

Detective Superintendent David Roney from the office of the National Coordinator Protect Prepare said: “While our security measures and activities are under continual review, UK police forces will be further reviewing plans for large-scale and other public events over the coming days and weeks following the terrorist attack in Orlando, Florida. The public should remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour or activity to the confidential anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789 321 or in an emergency call 999.”

Detective Superintendent David Palmer from the MPS Protective Security Operations Command added: “As we have seen around the world terrorists target people of all beliefs and backgrounds, including those who are LGBT. The threat level to the UK – and all it’s communities – is severe meaning an attack is highly likely, and our protective security measures are consistent with the level of threat. We are not advising any organisers to cancel or postpone any LGBT-related events.”
