Since 1661, people have been coming to Vauxhall to have fun. The area has a distinct character and identity, with a rich cultural history as an area of late-night entertainment.

Modern day Vauxhall is no different, offering a unique mix of amenities and independent businesses against a recently transformed skyline. Vauxhall is one of London’s LGBTQI+ hotspots, with world-class cabaret and an important night-time economy. Nearby, Little Portugal is home to one of the largest Portuguese and Latin American communities in the UK.

Vauxhall is rapidly evolving, and with this change comes a shift in the area’s usage and perception: Vauxhall is becoming a place where businesses want to base themselves, that they are eager to bring clients to, and where their employees are keen to work.

Working in partnership with local stakeholders, Vauxhall One has played a key role in this transformation, adapting to the area’s rapid regeneration and making great strides towards enhancing the urban realm, supporting local businesses and promoting Vauxhall as the destination for different.

Aseem Sheikh

Chairperson

Since the organisation’s inception in 2012, Vauxhall One has delivered substantial improvements to the area. Amongst numerous other projects, we’ve delivered 14,000 hours of additional street cleaning; planted 700 square metres of greenery; installed nine CCTV cameras; and welcomed 20,000 people per year to our extensive programme of free summer events.

Our green wall on South Lambeth Place, decked seating on Goding Street, mural on New Spring Gardens Walk and maintenance of the tunnels and bridges around the transport hub have reinvigorated Vauxhall’s public spaces to make it a better place to live, work and visit.

FUTURE PLANS

As the construction of numerous developments in the area reaches completion, Vauxhall One will focus on an inward investment strategy that attracts commercial tenants looking for centrally-located, premium office and co-working space.

An overarching advertising and PR campaign will position Vauxhall as an important destination for business, with superb transport links, attractive green spaces and a vibrant cultural scene

Further plans include:

  • Lobbying for the removal of the gyratory and its replacement with a pedestrianised green space
  • Attracting new food and beverage and independent retailers to the area
  • Partnering with Lambeth Council to deliver the Low Line vision for Goding Street
  • Improving Vauxhall’s outdoor space, with greater provision for al fresco dining
  • Enhancing Vauxhall’s cultural and heritage offer
