Summer changes how people use Vauxhall.
Parks, public spaces and streets become places where people spend time, not just pass through. Lunchtime walks replace desk-bound routines. Evenings stretch a little further. Weekends feel more open, more social, more connected.
At Vauxhall One, this shift isn’t left to chance. Each year, we deliver a coordinated programme of events and activity designed to bring people into the area, support local businesses and make Vauxhall a more vibrant place to be.
Creating a more active Vauxhall
Vauxhall is one of London’s busiest transport interchanges, with thousands of people moving through it every day. But movement alone doesn’t create a sense of place.
Our role is to help turn that movement into moments, encouraging people to stop, spend time and experience what Vauxhall has to offer.
Through our Summer Season, we deliver a programme of cultural events, community activities and public space activations that animate the area at key times of day. These events are designed to be accessible, visible and rooted in the places people already use – from the wide-open green space that is Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens to smaller, everyday spaces across the BID area.
The aim is simple: to make Vauxhall a place people genuinely want to be, whether they work, live or visit here.
Supporting local businesses through footfall and visibility
For local businesses, a more active Vauxhall isn’t just about atmosphere, it’s about opportunity.
Events and activity help draw people into the area and encourage them to stay longer. That increased footfall supports cafés, restaurants, shops and venues, particularly during evenings and weekends when trading can be more challenging.
By creating reasons to visit Vauxhall, we help strengthen the local economy and support the businesses that make the area what it is.
This sits at the core of what we do as a BID: creating conditions where local businesses can thrive.
Summer favourites returning soon
If you’ve spent time in Vauxhall over the past few years, you’ll probably already know some of our best-loved summer events.
Bearpit Karaoke and Summer Screens have become a regular part of the local calendar, returning each year to bring people together in Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens. Whether it’s an impromptu afternoon singalong or an evening film screening under the open sky, these moments help create a more relaxed, social atmosphere in the heart of the area.
They’re simple, accessible and open to everyone – and that’s exactly why they work. They give people a reason to stop, stay and enjoy Vauxhall in a different way.
Both will be returning again this summer, and we’ll be sharing more details, dates and ticket information very soon.
Big Vauxhall Tree Week: seeing the area differently
This May, we’re extending the usual line-up with the first-ever Big Vauxhall Tree Week, part of the city’s wider Urban Tree Festival.
Running from 10–17 May, the week brings together a series of walks, workshops and community-led activities that explore Vauxhall’s urban forest and the role it plays in everyday city life.
The programme invites people to experience Vauxhall in new and unexpected ways. Guided walks led by Lambeth’s arboriculture team will offer insight into how trees are selected, planted and maintained, and why they matter for air quality, biodiversity and wellbeing.
There are opportunities to explore nature after dark through a bat walk in Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, as well as slower, more reflective moments such as an evening sketch and walk session.
A film screening at The Cinema Museum and a community roundtable will bring together local voices, environmental experts and partners to discuss the future of green space in urban neighbourhoods like Vauxhall.
Together, these events highlight the importance of greening as part of creating a healthier, more welcoming place, while also giving people practical ways to engage with the environment around them.
A weekend of celebration: Vauxhall May Fair
Big Vauxhall Tree Week culminates in the Vauxhall May Fair, a free weekend celebration in Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens and at Vauxhall City Farm.
Across two days, the space will be transformed into a lively, welcoming environment filled with activity. Visitors can explore plant stalls, take part in hands-on workshops, enjoy live performances and experience a wide range of family-friendly activities.
It’s a chance to immerse yourself in the community here, connect with neighbours and see a different side of Vauxhall.
Events like this bring life to public space and give people reasons to linger, explore and spend in the area.
Working in partnership
None of this happens alone.
Programmes like Big Vauxhall Tree Week are delivered in partnership with local organisations, environmental experts and community groups. This approach allows us to bring together different perspectives, skills and audiences, creating a richer and more varied programme.
It also reflects how we work more broadly: acting as a coordinator and connector, bringing businesses, partners and stakeholders together around shared priorities.
Part of a bigger picture
While Summer Season is one of the most visible parts of what we do, it sits within a wider programme of activity delivered throughout the year.
From additional street cleaning and greening to safety coordination and business support, our role is to provide consistent, practical improvements that make Vauxhall work better day to day.
Our Summer Season events build on that foundation, shaping how Vauxhall feels and how it is remembered.
A place people choose to spend time
Vauxhall is evolving rapidly, with new developments, growing communities and changing patterns of work and travel.
In this context, creating a strong sense of place is more important than ever.
Through our Summer Season programming, we help ensure that Vauxhall is not just somewhere people pass through, but somewhere they choose to spend time.
Whether it’s joining a lunchtime walk, attending an evening event or spending a weekend at the May Fair, these moments contribute to a more vibrant, connected and welcoming area.

Our Summer Season programme runs until October, with a range of events and activities for businesses, employees, residents and visitors.
