In March 2026, Vauxhall One partnered with Lambeth’s arboriculture team to plant six new trees on Newport Street, adding to Vauxhall’s growing urban forest.
This small but meaningful greening project is part of our ongoing work to improve the everyday environment across the area, making Vauxhall a more pleasant place to work, visit and spend time.
Investing in greener streets
Two species were carefully selected for this location: Prunus subhirtella ‘Autumnalis’ (Winter Flowering Cherry) and Acer campestre ‘Lienco’ (Field Maple).
These were chosen not only for their appearance, but for their resilience and ability to thrive in an urban setting, contributing to biodiversity while enhancing the look and feel of the street throughout the year.
The project was delivered through joint funding from Vauxhall One and the London Borough of Lambeth, reflecting a shared commitment to creating a cleaner, greener and more welcoming neighbourhood.
Why trees matter in Vauxhall
Vauxhall currently has one of the lowest levels of tree canopy cover in the borough. Every new tree helps to address that, contributing to London’s wider urban forest while delivering local benefits.
For Newport Street businesses and those working in the area, this means:
– More shade during warmer months
– Cooler street-level temperatures
– A more attractive and diverse streetscape
These are small changes individually, but together they make a noticeable difference to how a place feels day to day.
See the impact for yourself
If you’d like to learn more about how trees are selected, planted and cared for, you can join a guided lunchtime walk as part of Big Vauxhall Tree Week.
Led by Lambeth’s Tree Planting Programme Manager, Poppy George, the walk will explore some of Vauxhall’s newest trees and the role they play in shaping a greener, healthier neighbourhood.
