In June 2021, a portion of Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens was transformed into a ‘village’ and a checkerboard of ‘islands’. Each island contained a bespoke selection of building blocks, inviting young people to explore and play with the creation of forms, spaces and architecture on their island.
Participants were given a brief to respond to, which referenced wider conversations about Vauxhall One’s future objectives and plans. The event offered the local community a chance to come together in a Covid-secure way and build shared experiences through an exciting and memorable creative activity.
A digital version of the event was also created, utilising an online sandbox to offer young people who were unable to attend in person the opportunity to participate.
The event formed part of the London Festival of Architecture, and was delivered in partnership with New Practice.
