In November 2022, the London Borough of Lambeth was awarded funding by London’s Night Czar, Amy Lamé, and the Mayor’s 24-Hour London team to create a Night Time Enterprise Zone (NTEZ) in Vauxhall.
The aim of this year-long initiative was to boost activity in the area after 6pm, support night-time workers and make Vauxhall more welcoming and inclusive after dark.
Vauxhall One worked with London Borough of Lambeth to deliver a range of projects that took into account the needs and challenges of local businesses and encouraged greater use of the area at night.
Over the course of the year, over 15,000 people attended NTEZ events in Vauxhall and there was a 17% increase in evening footfall. 19 businesses gained accreditation through safety programmes and there were 12 new sign-ups to the Women’s Night Safety Charter. The full report by the Greater London Authority can be downloaded here.
Building on the NTEZ initiative, Lambeth plans to engage with BIDs, businesses, night workers and community organisations to deliver a Night Time Strategy for the whole borough, incorporating learnings from the Vauxhall projects.
This strategy will focus on making Lambeth welcoming, equitable, safe and accessible at night, and supporting the night time economy.
