Every Business Improvement District operates on a fixed five-year term. For Vauxhall One, the current term runs until 31 March 2027 — which means that 2026 is a renewal year. This autumn, eligible businesses will be asked to decide whether the BID should continue for a further five years.
A renewal year follows a clear, legally defined process, designed to give levy-paying businesses time, information and opportunity to engage before casting their vote.
Setting the context: early 2026
In the months leading up to the ballot, our focus is on awareness and engagement. This is the period when we reflect on what has been delivered since 2022, share evidence of impact, and explain how BID investment has supported cleaner streets, improved safety, greener public spaces and a strong programme of community events.
It’s also when we begin conversations about the future — drawing on stakeholder research and business feedback to shape priorities for the next term, should the BID be renewed.
The formal ballot process: autumn 2026
The renewal ballot itself is run independently by Lambeth Council, not by Vauxhall One. This ensures the process is fair, transparent and confidential.
Key dates to note:
- September 2026 – Eligible businesses will receive formal confirmation of who is registered to vote on behalf of their organisation. You can nominate your organisation’s voter now by completing this form.
- Also in September 2026, your organisation’s registered voter will receive a copy of the Vauxhall One Business Plan for 2027-2032. The business plan sets out how Vauxhall One plans to respond to the needs of the local business community in the coming five years.
- Early October 2026 – Voting packs will be issued by Lambeth Council. Voting is by postal ballot only.
- Thursday 5 November 2026 – Ballot closes at 5pm.
To be renewed, the BID must achieve:
- a majority of votes cast in favour, and
- a majority by total rateable value of the premises of those voting.
Why participation matters
A successful renewal will enable Vauxhall One to continue investing in the area, on behalf of its member businesses, until March 2032. With the BID levy, we can build on the progress made in recent years and keep delivering the services and projects set out in the Business Plan: from enhanced cleaning and safety initiatives to greening projects and a programme of free public events that bring life and footfall to Vauxhall.
The renewal ballot is also an important opportunity for businesses to have their say on the future direction of the area. Taking part ensures that the BID’s priorities are shaped by the people and organisations who know Vauxhall best.
Renewal requires active participation. By engaging and voting, businesses help ensure that the next Business Plan reflects the breadth, diversity and shared priorities of the local business community, and that collective investment continues to deliver real benefits for Vauxhall over the next five years.
Staying informed
Over the coming months, we’ll continue to share information about our work, our impact, and our plans so businesses can make an informed decision when voting opens in October.
In the meantime, we encourage members to visit our Projects page to explore how BID investment has been working in practice, and to stay engaged as Vauxhall approaches this important milestone.
