Recycle Your Christmas Cards At Sainsbury’s Nine Elms

Local residents are encouraging to recycle their old Christmas cards and wrapping paper at Sainsbury’s Nine Elms

Customers have until Tuesday January 13th to bring in any of their old Christmas cards and wrapping paper to the collection box situated at the front of the store. The recycling drive is part of the retailer’s partnership with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) UK. The collected cards will be recycled by Sainsbury’s and it will make a donation to FSC UK in the New Year based on the volume of cards collected in its stores. Last year it donated over £9,000 to help the FSC with its work to promote responsible management of the world’s forests. Collection boxes are available in now in over 880 supermarkets and convenience stores throughout the country.

Sainsbury’s Nine Elms Temp Store Manager Andy Robins said: “We had a really good response from our customers last year and with their help, we’re hoping to make an even bigger contribution this time. It’s a great way to continue that goodwill feeling and ensure your cards are put to positive use, which is all part of our No Waste to Landfill commitment”.

Vauxhall One’s Tunnel of Love wins British BID proud project award 2014

Last February, Vauxhall One turned a disused rail arch into a Tunnel of Love.

At this year’s British BID conference Vauxhall One was announced the winner of 2014’s proud project award for place marketing of a large location. Out of the 143 Business Improvement Districts across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, Vauxhall One’s romantic films screenings over Valentine’s weekend at the Tunnel of Love took the top spot.

Eight romantic cult cinema classics, including Annie Hall, Moonrise Kingdom and Casablanca, were screened over four nights, in an arch leased to Vauxhall One by Network Rail as part of a larger regeneration campaign. The Tunnel of Love also included a champagne cocktail bar, a local florist, a romantic photo booth and a chocolate fondue stall provided by a local start-up.

Vauxhall One’s Tunnel of Love was featured not only in Elle magazine, Metro, The Londonist, Twenty Something and London Town, but was also listed as the number one thing to do on Valentine’s Day in London by Time Out.

A total of 2,000 tickets were sold for the eight film screens, raising over £3,000 for local homeless charity Thames Reach who operate a shelter in Vauxhall.

Transforming Vauxhall Cross gyratory: TfL and Lambeth’s consultation closes 2nd January 2015

Radical new plans to transform the gyratory at the heart of Vauxhall have been revealed

You can see them here

https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/roads/vauxhall-cross

Consultation will run until 2nd Jan 2015 and is open to all, including Vauxhall One business owners and employees. The consultation will help to shape further design of the new highway layout, with further consultation on the detailed plans due next year.

The Vauxhall Cross proposals include:

Removing the one-way gyratory traffic system at Vauxhall Cross and returning the roads to two-way working. This would help create new retail, residential, employment and educational opportunities and attract further investment to the area. Vauxhall is one of a number of major gyratories that TfL and London’s boroughs are looking at removing over the next ten years.

Making improvements to the rail, bus and Tube interchange including the current bus station. This would complement the recent 25 per cent increase in capacity of the 185 bus route and the ongoing £36m Vauxhall Tube station upgrade, which will provide step-free access to the Victoria line and reduced congestion within the station.

Creating a thriving centre for Vauxhall – a more attractive, safer, greener place for all those who live, work and travel through. Cllr Jack Hopkins, Lambeth Council Cabinet Member for Growth and Jobs, said: “Vauxhall has so much exciting potential that’s not been realised because it’s dominated by traffic. I’d urge people to make sure this consultation reflects the widest possible views of those who live, work and travel in Vauxhall.”

Views must be submitted by 2nd Jan 2015

Chair of the Vauxhall One board George Foster commented:

‘Our conversations with businesses often centre on the Vauxhall gyratory, and its lamentable effect on the character of the area and the physical health of their employees. We applaud the efforts of LB Lambeth and Transport for London to remove the gyratory and replaced it with something that restores the balance between pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. This could be the key in unlocking the great potential of our area. We urge the owners and employees of our member businesses and others to participate fully in the consultation, and also to work with us to ensure the best outcome.’
